Blocky vs Google Docs + Figma
The default stack: copy in Docs, structure in a spreadsheet, wireframes in Figma, approval in an email thread.
What Google Docs + Figma does well
- Free, universal, and every client already knows how to use it
- Docs is a genuinely great writing and commenting environment
- Figma/FigJam is unbeatable for wireframing and visual exploration
- Total flexibility — no tool telling you how to work
Genuinely. This section isn’t a trick.
Where the planning workflow breaks down
There is no single source of truth: the words live in nine documents, the structure in a sheet, the layout in Figma — and they drift apart from day one, reconciled by hand every time one changes.
“Looks great!” in an email is the approval record. Nobody can say which version was approved, and nothing notices when copy changes after the yes.
Handoff is copy-paste: from Docs into Figma, from Figma into the CMS, with mistakes introduced at every hop — and no structured export for AI tools at the end.

Free, in licence fees — most teams already pay for Google Workspace and Figma anyway (checked July 2026). The cost is the reconciling, chasing and re-approving between the tools.
When Google Docs + Figma is the better choice
- A five-page brochure site with one stakeholder — the chaos never gets a chance to compound.
- You’re solo, the client is hands-off, and process would be overhead.
- The words are already final and design is genuinely the only remaining question.
If that’s you, use Google Docs + Figma with our blessing. If the words and the sign-off are the problem, that’s ours.
